The London Apple Store
Ming Ee and me are having a good time in London. Unfortunately, we left the USB cable for the camera in Germany, so I can't access my pictures yet. But fortunately, there is an Apple Store in London, and using Photo Booth, we took a few nice pictures and sent it to our e-mail accounts.
We had to wait quite a while to get to use an iMac. There were so many people there checking their e-mails, surfing the web etc., but in the end, it was worth it.
The store itself is rather nice, I'd like to see one in Stuttgart as well. But I think that'll take quite a long while.
Ming Ee und ich haben eine gute Zeit in London. Leider haben wir das USB-Kabel für die Kamera in Deutschland gelassen, sodass ich auf meine Bilder noch nicht zugreifen kann. Aber zum Glück gibt es hier einen Apple-Store… Wir haben mit Photo Booth ein paar Bilder geschossen und an uns selbst per Mail verschickt.
Wir mussten einige Zeit warten, bis wir einen iMac benutzen konnten, weil so viele Leute ihre Mails gelesen haben, im Web gesurft haben etc. Aber am Ende hat sich's gelohnt.
Der Store selbst ist ziemlich cool, sowas würde mir in Stuttgart auch gefallen. Aber ich schätze, das dauert noch eine Weile.

Chinese ExpressionsChinesische Ausdrücke
Zoe from Shanghai has a list of chinese expressions and their english translations on her blog. I guess she took them from a Chinese book to learn English, but for me, they are useful as well.
I'd say “谢谢” to her, but I don't want to sign up for a Microsoft Passport just to leave comments on a blog…
Zoe aus Shanghai hat in ihrem Blog eine Liste chinesischer Ausdrücke mit englischen Übersetzungen. Ich denke, die Liste stammt aus einem chinesischen Englischbuch, aber für mich ist sie ebenso praktisch.
Ich würde mich ja gerne mit einem „谢谢“ bei ihr bedanken, aber ich will mich nicht bei Microsoft Passport anmelden, nur um in einem Blog Kommentare hinterlassen zu können…

When the last Kalender-sheets
flattern trough the winterstreets
and Dezemberwind is blowing,
then ist everybody knowing
that it is not mehr allzuweit:
she does come - the Weihnachtszeit.
All the Menschen, Leute, people
flippen out of ihr warm Stueble,
run to Kaufhof, Aldi, Mess,
make Konsum and business.
Kaufen this und jene things
and the Churchturmglocke rings.
Manche holen sich a Taennchen,
when this brennt, they cry "Attention".
Rufen for the Feuerwehr:
"Please come quick to löschen her!"
Goes the Tännchen of in Rauch,
they are standing on the Schlauch.
In the kitchen of the house
mother makes the Christmasschmaus.
She is working, schufts and bakes,
the hit is now her Yoghurtkeks.
And the Opa says als Tester:
"We are killed bis to Silvester."
Then he fills the last Glas wine -
yes, this is the christmas time!
Day by day does so vergang,
and the Holy night does come.
You can think, you can remember,
this is immer in Dezember.
Then the childrenlein are coming

WeihnachtsmusikMusic for Christmas
On Sunday, I will be playing for the Messias Celebration at Treffpunkt Leben, together with Michael Schlierf, Matthias Gassert and a small choir. There will be some classical music and a few dances as well, so it should really be an inspiring morning. If you happen to be free on Sunday, I'd be glad to meet you there.
Am Samstag werde ich bei der Messias Celebration von Treffpunkt Leben mitspielen, zusammen mit Michael Schlierf, Matthias Gassert und einem kleinen Chor. Zusammen mit ein paar klassischen Stücke sowie einigen Tänze wird es ein inspirierender Morgen werden. Falls du am Sonntag Zeit hast, würde ich mich freuen, dich dort zu sehen.

Michael Schlierf: »facing«
Seit kurzem ist die neue CD von Michael Schlierf erhältlich. Im Gegensatz zu seiner letzten Platte (inspirations) ist er jetzt zusammen mit einer Band musikalisch unterwegs. Den Charakter der musikalischen Reise hört man der Platte an; insgesamt ergibt sich eine faszinierende Mischung aus arrangierten und improvisierten Elementen. Besonders beeindruckend finde ich die Vielfalt an Klängen, die sich aus den verschiedenen Instrumenten ergibt. Es fällt fast schwer zu glauben, dass vieles davon nicht vorher arrangiert wurde.
Reinhören kann man in das Album direkt auf der Homepage von Michael Schlierf (unter Audio » Facing). Für die Schweizer ist das Album sicher auch bald bei c|works erhältlich.
Since very recently, the new CD of Michael Schlierf is available. Unlike his last album (inspirations), he now performs together with a band. Michael describes the CD as a musical journey; on the whole, I find the mixture between arranged and improvised elements very fascinating. Especially impressive is the complex array of sounds that the musicians manage to achieve using their instruments. It is hard to believe that much of this is not pre-arranged.

Ein Wochenende in KarlsruheA weekend in Karlsruhe
Aus der Rubrik: Worüber ich eigentlich schon lange schreiben wollte…
Ende Oktober waren wir für ein Wochenende in Karlsruhe. Zum einen haben wir Freunde besucht, zum anderen wollten wir endlich mal bei Kubik vorbeischauen.
Ich hatte Mark von Kubik letztes Jahr auf einer Konferenz getroffen; damals hat sein Vortrag mir sehr Appetit auf die „emerging church“ gemacht. Leider hat es nun recht lange gedauert, bis ich es tatsächlich geschafft habe, vorbeizuschauen. Ich hatte mir allerdings vorgenommen, dieses Wochenende und damit auch die Zeit bei Kubik bewusst als Zeit für mich selbst zu nehmen und nicht als Gemeindebau-Inspirations-Aktion.
Wir waren Freitagabends direkt bei Kubik und haben den Gottesdienst sehr genossen. Die dort gelebte Kreativität im Umgang miteinander und mit Gott hat mich begeistert. Für mich persönlich war es ein sehr wertvoller Abend – ich habe mich gleich wie zuhause gefühlt und hatte verschiedene gute Gespräche. Am Montag waren wir nochmal da; aufgrund der damals laufenden 24/7-Gebetsaktion konnten wir auch tagsüber rein und uns etwas Zeit fürs Gebet nehmen.
Eine Frage hat dieses Wochenende in mir hinterlassen: Warum ist Gemeinde eigentlich nicht immer so persönlich und so relevant?
An dieser Stelle nochmal lieben, herzlichen Dank an die Freunde, die uns bei sich aufgenommen haben!
I've been wanting to write about this for quite some time…
We spent a weekend in Karlsruhe at the end of October. We went there to visit a few friends and to finally drop by Kubik.
I met Mark of Kubik last year at a conference; this was the first time I heard of the “emerging church”. Unfortunately, it took me a long time to finally go there. I decided to use this weekend including the time at Kubik as a time for myself, rather than trying to get some inspiring ideas about how to build the church.
We spent Friday night at Kubik and enjoyed the service a lot. I was touched by the creativity I saw in dealing with each other and with God. It was a precious evening for me – I felt at home right from the beginning and had a few meaningful conversations. On Monday, we went there again to participate in the 24/7 prayer week.
That weekend has left one question in me: Why is church not always as personal and relevant as this?
