Habe heute My Language Exchange entdeckt, eine interessante (kommerzielle) Webseite, über die sich Leute zusammenfinden können, um sich gegenseitig beim Erlernen einer Sprache zu helfen. Dank des großen Angebotes finden sich die unmöglichsten Kombinationen und so auch Leute, mit denen man Yiddisch oder Thai lernen kann.
Vermutlich ist aber nicht jeder dort verzeichnete Sprachenbegeisterte dermaßen motiviert wie dieser hier:
Today, I discovered My Language Exchange. This (commercial) website connects people that want to help each other learn a language. Quite a lot of people signed up on the site, so that you can even find people to help you learn Yiddish or Thai.
However, I guess that not everyone included in the database is as highly motivated as this one:
German is the single greatest language on the face of the earth, and every moment that goes by in which I am not entirely fluent in it, is a moment I would rather not have lived.

A collection of treasures · Die Schatzsammlung des David P. Field
I've been trying to follow the blog of Oak Hill's David P. Field (yes, he's a colleague of my brother) for a while, but alas, he just writes too many good things to keep up with. The “problem” with his blog posts is that they are the kind you want to take some time to think about, not the kind you quickly read and forget.
Anyway, here's a quick mention of three things I want to keep track of before they disappear in my RSS reader:
- The Ultimate Pro-Wal-Mart Article - I'm quite curious to read that one, given David's soft spot for social justice that I sensed in his articles so far…
- Opening Up Obadiah - A study guide on Obadiah. Certainly not a book I've been over-reading… (oh, and Thomas, where are your materials? :-))
- Audio Bible - David P. Field reads the (complete!) World English Bible. I would love do to something like this, but I'm not sure I can find a German copyright-free version of the Bible I really like… any hints?
Seit einiger Zeit versuche ich das Blog von David P. Field (Oak Hill, ein Kollege meines Bruders) zu lesen, aber er schreibt zu viele gute Dinge, um noch hinterherzukommen. Das „Problem“ mit seinen Blogeinträgen ist: Es lohnt sich, sich einige Zeit dafür zu nehmen.
Hier sind drei Sachen, die ich mir anschauen will und die ich mir hier merke, bevor sie aus dem RSS-Reader verschwinden:
- The Ultimate Pro-Wal-Mart Article - Ich bin ziemlich gespannt darauf, vor allem weil ich meine, bei David eine Ader für soziale Gerechtigkeit entdeckt zu haben…
- Opening Up Obadiah - Studienmaterial zum Buch Obadja. Ganz bestimmt kein Buch, das ich zu oft gelesen habe… (oh, und Thomas, wie wär's mal mit Material von dir? :-))
- Audio Bible - David P. Field liest die (komplette!) World English Bible. Ich würde sowas auch sehr gerne machen, aber bin mir nicht sicher, dass es eine deutsche Copyright-freie Bibelübersetzung gibt, mit der ich mich wohlfühle. Irgendwelche Tipps?

AusgeträumtThe end of a dream
Schade, der Traum vom WM-Sieg hat nun ein Ende. Vor der WM hätte ich nicht gedacht, dass mich die Spiele so faszinieren würden. Um ehrlich zu sein, war ich einer der stärksten WM-Muffel :-). Aber während der WM hat's mich dann doch gepackt - wie so viele.
Der beste Akteur war für mich Jürgen Klinsmann. Ich bin sehr beeindruckt davon, wie er es geschafft hat, das, worin er sich sicher war, durchzusetzen und sich in anderen Fragen kompetent beraten zu lassen. Sich also weder von den bestehenden Strukturen vereinnahmen zu lassen noch als Einzelkämpfer seine eigenen Vorstellungen zu erzwingen. Letztendlich hat er es geschafft, in und außerhalb Deutschlands das Bild vom deutschen Fußball auf den Kopf zu stellen. Auf den intelligenten, fairen, schnellen Fußball der deutschen Mannschaft kann man mit Recht stolz sein.
Ich würde mir wünschen, dass dieser Mut Nachahmer findet. Nicht nur in der Bundesliga, sondern auch in der deutschen Politik.
.Since yesterday, the German aspirations for winning the world cup have come to an abrupt end. Before the cup, I wouldn't have thought that I would be so fascinated by the games. To be honest, I was always a bit cantankerous about the world cup :-). But during the cup, I was caught by the atmosphere - like so many.
For me, the best player was Jürgen Klinsmann (the German coach). I am very impressed that he managed to enforce the things he was competent in and listen to advisors when he needed it, to neither be overwhelmed by the existing structures nor to try to fight on his own. In the end, he managed to turn the image of German soccer upside down - both inside and outside of Germany. One can be justly proud of the German team's intelligent, fair and fast soccer play.
I hope that his courage will find many imitators. Not just in our federal soccer league, but also in German politics.
