Über den FontBlog bin ich auf Yves Peters gestoßen. Er übernimmt den neuen internationalen Typo-Blog FontFeed.
Im Fontshop-Blog beschreibt er seinen Werdegang. Wirklich interessant zu lesen, wie er über manche krumme Wege nun dort angekommen ist, wo er sich beruflich wohlfühlt.Via the FontBlog I read about Yves Peters gestoßen, who took over the new international typography-related blog FontFeed.
In his Fontshop Blog, he describes his career until now. It's really interesting to read how after some rather crooked paths, he has now arrived at a place where he's doing what he really wants to do.

Das größte Hörgewohnheitsforschungsprojekt der Welt - The biggest listening habits research project in the world
Mit iTunes 8 hat Apple den neuen iTunes Genius auf die Menschheit losgelassen. Der Genius zeigt einerseits zum aktuellen Song, den man anhört, ähnliche Musik an, andererseits kann er Playlisten auf Basis eines ausgewählten Songs erstellen, die dann ähnliche Musik enthalten.
Leider basiert das System wohl nur auf der Musik, die im iTunes Music Store erhältlich ist. Damit ist die Nützlichkeit doch sehr eingeschränkt. Außerdem nimmt sich iTunes die Freiheit, Daten zur kompletten iTunes-Bibliothek an Apple zu schicken. Apple kriegt dadurch einiges an Daten und baut sicherlich eine sehr interessante Datenbank damit auf… Vermutlich werden sie die irgendwann gut zur Musikvermarktung nutzen können.
Ich habe das Feature kurz ausprobiert, aber bei der Musik, die ich höre, bringt es nicht sehr viel. Ich bleibe lieber bei last.fm.
With iTunes 8, Apple released the new iTunes Genius into the wild. It can display music that's similar to the song you're currently listening to as well as create playlists based on a "seed" song that you choose.
Unfortunately, it seems the system so far is based only on the music available in the iTunes Music store, which limits the usefulness a lot. In addition to that, iTunes takes the liberty of sending data about your complete iTunes library to Apple. I'm sure they are receiving a lot of data through data, and are creating a very interesting database… They might even use it for music marketing, I guess.

I quickly tried out the features, but they don't seem to work very well with the music I'm listening to. I guess I will stay a last.fm user.

Medaillenspiegel Paralympics - Paralympics Medal Table
Weil ich am Wochenende in die Eröffnungszeremonie der Paralympics reingezappt hatte, wollte ich heute mal interessehalber etwas mehr über den Ablauf und den aktuellen Medaillenspiegel herausfinden. Mein erster Weg führte mich zur Zeit, weil ich dort schon die Berichterstattung zu den Olympischen Spielen mitverfolgt hatte. Aber leider wurde wohl dort die (eh schon eigens erstellte) Olympia-Website mit Newsticker, Medaillenspiegel, Hintergrundinformation etc. nicht für die Paralympics wiederverwendet. Stattdessen könnte man die Paralympics fast übersehen im Gewirr von normalen Sportnachrichten, die mittlerweile wieder vorherrschen. Auch mit Google wurde ich zunächst nicht fündig. Sehr schade eigentlich. Denn die Paralympics sind doch eigentlich eine sehr große und beachtenswerte Veranstaltung - unabhängig davon, ob man selbst eine körperliche Behinderung hat oder nicht. Aber scheinbar sind die Medien nicht so richtig daran interessiert, auch wenn die Chinesen sich mit der beeindruckenden Eröffnungsveranstaltung wieder viel Mühe gemacht haben. Zum Glück bin ich dann doch noch bei der BBC fündig geworden: Dort gibt es unter "Other sport..." immerhin eine Zusammenstellung der Artikel zu den Paralympics und tatsächlich den ersehnten Medaillenspiegel..
Since I saw parts of the opening ceremony of the Paralympics on TV during the weekend, I was curious to find out some more about the schedule and the current table of medals today. Of course I first went to the Zeit, since I already followed their coverage of the Olympics. But it seems that they scrapped the website they created for the Olympics (including a news ticker, table of medals, background information etc.) instead of just reusing it for the Paralympics. It's easy to miss the Paralympics-related information (even the medals) amongst all the other sports coverage that's going on in the meantime. Even Google was not very helpful. That's really a pity. Whether you have a physical disability or not, the paralympics are a big event worthy of attention. But it seems the media aren't really interested, even though I find the Chinese put a lot of effort into their impressive opening ceremony. Fortunately, I found some information on the BBC website: Amongst "Other sport...", they at least have a collection of their Paralympics coverage and even theMedals Table I was looking for.
